At An Grianán Theatre · Port Road, Letterkenny, Co. Donegal
An Grianán Youth Theatre opens its doors on Wednesday 26 August 2026 for a set of free taster workshops ahead of the autumn term. There are two sessions, split by age: juniors aged 7 to 12 from 4:00 PM to 5:30 PM, and seniors aged 13 to 18 from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM. No previous drama experience is expected and nobody is auditioned.
The theatre describes the day as fun, easy-going and a chance for the young people to meet each other in a relaxed environment. Participants work with the youth theatre’s lead facilitator and meet the staff who run the weekly classes. Parents who want to enrol a child for the autumn can fill in registration forms on the night, which is the practical reason to turn up: the theatre has said that places in the coming term’s classes will be limited. For families in Letterkenny and the surrounding towns this is one of the few structured, low-cost creative activities running for teenagers through the winter.
An Grianán Theatre is on the Port Road in Letterkenny, a short walk from the town centre and close to the bus station, so young people travelling in from Ramelton, Kilmacrennan or Newtowncunningham can use the Bus Eireann and Local Link services into town. Drivers will find town-centre car parks and on-street parking within a few minutes’ walk. The 4:00 PM junior session finishes at 5:30 PM, which suits a parent collection on the way home from work, and the senior session runs to 7:30 PM.
