At County House, Lifford · The Diamond, Lifford, Co. Donegal, F93 Y622
Donegal County Council has published the planning application, Environmental Impact Assessment Report and Compulsory Purchase Order for the proposed Barnesmore Gap Greenway, an active travel route linking Donegal Town with Ballybofey and Stranorlar through the gap. The consultation opened at 9am on 13 August 2026 and the documents go on public display from 17 August. Anyone can inspect the drawings, the environmental reporting and the schedule of lands to be acquired, and make a submission or an objection.
The full document set, which also includes a Natura Impact Statement, can be inspected during normal working hours at four locations: County House in Lifford, the Public Services Centre in Donegal Town, the Twin Towns Community Library at The Base Enterprise Centre in Stranorlar, and An Coimisiún Pleanála at 64 Marlborough Street in Dublin. Everything is also published online at www.barnesmoregapgreenway.ie for anyone who cannot get to one of the display venues.
County House sits on The Diamond in Lifford, on the R236 close to the Strabane bridge and the border. Lifford is about 20km from Letterkenny and 12km from Ballybofey on the N14 and N15. If Lifford is awkward, the Donegal Town Public Services Centre is off the N15 near the town centre and Twin Towns Community Library is at The Base Enterprise Centre in Stranorlar, both with parking on site.
