What to Expect

Monaghan Town Library runs Crosswords and Croissants every Monday morning from 11am to 1pm in the library on Level 1 of the Peace Campus. It is a drop-in session rather than a course: no booking, no commitment to turn up every week, and no skill level assumed. Regulars either bring their own crossword to work through or take one supplied by the library that morning, working alone or comparing notes with whoever else is at the table.

The library is straightforward about what it is for. This is a social morning built around a puzzle rather than a competitive one, aimed at anyone who fancies pairing a hot drink with a crossword in a room where nobody minds if you get stuck on a clue. It sits alongside the library service’s other daytime clubs, including book clubs, the Tuesday afternoon adult mindful colouring session in the same room, and the long-running Knit and Knatter group over in Carrickmacross. Together they make up a deliberate push to give the library’s older and retired users somewhere informal to meet during the day. The same format runs on Monday mornings in the Clones and Carrickmacross branches, while Castleblayney runs its own version on a different day. Getting There

Monaghan Town Library is part of the Peace Campus on Plantation Road on the edge of Monaghan town, about a ten minute walk from Church Square and the Diamond. There is parking on site and level access throughout the building, with the library on Level 1. Monaghan town bus station takes Bus Eireann coaches on the N2 Dublin to Derry corridor as well as local county routes. Monaghan County Museum is in the same building if you want to make a morning of it.
