ConTempo Quartet: Of Woods and Water

What to Expect

The ConTempo Quartet bring their programme Of Woods and Water to Riverbank Arts Centre in Newbridge on Wednesday 9 September 2026. The concert spans three centuries of string quartet writing, opening with an early Haydn quartet and closing with Beethoven’s quartet known as The Harp.

Between those two the quartet play Judith Ring’s Of Woods and Water, a folk-infused piece written in 2022 that gives the evening its title, alongside Dvorak’s Cypresses and quartet arrangements of Janacek’s reflective piano writing. ConTempo formed in Bucharest in 1995 and have been based in Ireland since 2003, spending years as ensemble in residence in Galway and building a reputation for pairing standard repertoire with new Irish commissions. Tickets are €18. Note that this is a reduced-capacity date: building works are under way on the adjacent Newbridge Library, a Kildare County Council building, and the seating plan may change as a result, so book early and check your seat allocation.

Getting There

Riverbank Arts Centre is on Main Street in Newbridge, in the centre of the town. Newbridge is just off the M7 about 50 km south-west of Dublin, with the town signposted from the motorway junction. There is public car parking within a short walk of Main Street. Newbridge railway station is on the Dublin Heuston to Kildare and Waterford line, around 40 minutes from Dublin, and the arts centre is a walk of a few minutes from the station. Bus Eireann serves Newbridge from Dublin, Naas and Kildare town.
