Limerick Art Society Exhibition at Culturlann Sweeney, Kilkee

What to Expect

Clare Arts Office and Culturlann Sweeney present a group exhibition by members of Limerick Art Society at the Kilkee venue from 10 August to 5 September 2026. Admission is free and the gallery is open from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Among the works on show is “Fair Day” by John Kennedy.

Limerick Art Society was founded in 1942 and has supported visual artists in the mid-west for more than eighty years. Its members work chiefly in painting, across oils, watercolour, acrylic and pastel, alongside photography, and the society’s stated aim is to bring art to people of all walks of life and to help less experienced as well as accomplished artists reach artistic excellence. A members’ show of this kind gives a spread of subjects and abilities rather than a single curated argument, which suits a seaside town gallery at the end of the summer season. Culturlann Sweeney combines a library, a gallery and a 108-seat theatre in one building on O’Connell Street, so the exhibition can be seen on the way in or out of anything else on there.

Getting There

Culturlann Sweeney is on O’Connell Street in the middle of Kilkee, a couple of minutes’ walk from the strand and the Victorian seafront. Kilkee is reached on the N67 coast road, roughly 15 minutes from Kilrush, an hour from Ennis and about 25 minutes from the Killimer to Tarbert car ferry if you are coming up from Kerry. There is on-street parking on O’Connell Street and larger car parks near the seafront, though these fill quickly on fine August days. Bus Eireann runs daily services between Ennis, Kilrush and Kilkee, stopping in the town centre a short walk away.
