Married without Children is Eve Darcy’s debut stand-up show, developed after a sold-out run at the Scene and Heard festival at Smock Alley in Dublin. The hour takes on modern marriage, the expectations that arrive with it, and the decision to opt out of parenthood, and Darcy is careful to separate admiration for parents from any interest in joining them. The set works through the advice and assumptions that get aimed at married couples without children, from relatives to strangers, and turns the running commentary into material.

The show mixes personal storytelling with wider observation about autonomy, love and equality in relationships, so it moves between straight jokes and longer reflective stretches rather than staying at one pitch. It runs for 100 minutes including an interval, which makes it a longer sit than a standard touring hour, and it carries an age guidance of 16 and over. The Ennis performance takes place at glor, which programmes comedy across both its main auditorium and its smaller studio space, and the 7:30pm start is earlier than the venue’s usual 8:00pm comedy slot, so it is worth checking the time twice before travelling.

Getting There

glor is on Causeway Link in Ennis, a short walk from the town centre, the bus station and the rail station. Bus Eireann routes connect Ennis with Limerick, Galway and Shannon Airport, and the Limerick to Ennis rail line serves the town. Drivers coming from Limerick or Galway should exit the M18 for Ennis and follow signs for the town centre. Parking is available at the venue and in town centre car parks nearby.
