Golden Jubilee of Doonbeg Church

At Doonbeg Church · Doonbeg, Co. Clare

Parish church in the west Clare village of Doonbeg

What to Expect

Doonbeg’s church turns fifty in 2026, and the parish is marking it with a golden jubilee celebration on the evening of Saturday 15 August, listed by the Diocese of Killaloe from 8pm to 9pm. Falling on the Feast of the Assumption, the date carries extra weight in a coastal parish where the August holyday has always pulled a big congregation, including people home from abroad for the summer.

Fifty-year church jubilees in the diocese usually take the form of a concelebrated Mass with clergy who served in the parish returning for the occasion, along with a roll call of the people who built and paid for the building in the mid-1970s. The Killaloe listing gives the hour but not the running order, so the parish newsletter and the notices at weekend Mass are the place to look for details of who is presiding, whether the church choir is singing, and whether there is a gathering afterwards. Admission is free and there is no booking.

Good to Know

  • Saturday 15 August 2026, 8pm to 9pm, at Doonbeg Church, Doonbeg.
  • Free to attend, no tickets required.
  • 15 August is the Feast of the Assumption, a holyday of obligation, so other Masses run in the parish that day too.
  • Expect a full church. Arriving early is sensible if you want a seat.
  • Contact the Killaloe diocesan office on +353 65 682 8638 for confirmation of the programme.

Getting There

Doonbeg sits on the west Clare coast between Kilkee and Quilty, on the N67 coast road that links Kilrush with Lahinch and Ennistymon. From Ennis it is roughly a 50 minute drive southwest via the N68 to Kilrush and then the N67, or via Kilmihil on the inland roads. The village is small, so on-street parking near the church fills quickly for a big occasion and the overflow tends to spill onto the wider verges either side of the village. There is no scheduled bus that suits an 8pm start, so plan on driving or arranging a lift locally.
