At Ennis Rugby Football Club · Drumbiggle, Ennis, Co. Clare
Ennis RFC turns its grounds at Drumbiggle into an obstacle course on Saturday 19 September 2026 for Clare’s Fittest Superstars, a team fundraiser in aid of Cahercalla Community Care and the club itself. The course carries between 10 and 12 obstacles designed by Davy Fitzgerald, the Clare hurling man behind the format used on Ireland’s Fittest Family, so the obstacles will be familiar to anyone who has watched the television series.
The organisers have been clear about the pitch: every obstacle is achievable, but teams have to work together to get through them. It is built around strength, stamina, communication, strategy and teamwork rather than raw individual fitness, which is what makes it workable for club teams, workplace teams and family groups rather than only for serious athletes. Cahercalla Community Care in Ennis is the main beneficiary. The hospital was taken into community ownership by the people of Clare and marked 30 years in 2025, and funds raised go towards activities, wellness initiatives and lifestyle services for its residents. The balance supports Ennis RFC.
Ennis RFC is at Drumbiggle on the western side of Ennis, a short drive from the town centre and signposted locally. Coming off the M18 motorway, take the Ennis exits and follow signs for the town centre, then for Drumbiggle. Parking is at the club grounds and on nearby roads, and it fills up for big club days, so allow extra time. From the town centre it is a walk of roughly 20 minutes, and Ennis bus and rail stations are both on the eastern side of town, about a ten minute taxi ride away.
