Sunday evening at Charlie’s Bar belongs to the Irish traditional group, who take the downstairs bar from 7:30 PM every week. Charlie’s lists it separately from its Thursday to Saturday band nights, and it plays a different role in the week: quieter, seated, closer to a listening session than a weekend gig. The repertoire is standard session material on fiddle, flute, banjo and accordion, with room for singers.
Because it is a session rather than a booked act, the players vary around a core of regulars, and visiting musicians who bring an instrument are generally welcome to sit in. Sunday opening at Charlie’s runs from 12:30 PM to 1:00 AM, so the music starts well into the evening with a long run after it. There is no admission charge. If you want a seat near the musicians it is worth ringing ahead, since the downstairs bar is not large and fills once the session starts.
Charlie’s is on Church Street in Enniskillen’s old town, a couple of doors along from Blakes of the Hollow and within easy walking distance of the castle and the Erne bridges. Drivers coming from Dublin or Cavan use the A509 and then the A4, Belfast traffic takes the M1 and A4, and the A32 runs down from Omagh. Sunday evening parking is the easiest of the week, with street spaces on and around Church Street and the Tesco car park on the west bank as a fallback. Enniskillen bus station on Wellington Road is a short walk, though Sunday evening Translink services are sparse, so check the return timetable or plan a taxi.
