VISUAL Carlow screens The SpongeBob Movie: Search For SquarePants on Sunday 30 August 2026 at 3:00 PM, a Sunday afternoon slot aimed squarely at families on the last weekend before schools go back. The 2025 animated feature, directed by Derek Drymon, sends SpongeBob off on a seafaring adventure to prove his bravery to Mr Krabs by tracking down The Flying Dutchman, a ghost pirate with a reputation to match. It runs 88 minutes and comes from the USA.
The venue frames the film around a simple point that lands well with younger viewers: growing up and being brave does not mean changing who you are or forcing yourself into a tough guy act, and you are enough exactly as you are. The IFCO rating is G, so it is open to all ages, and at €7 including the booking fee it is cheaper than a standard multiplex ticket. Street parking is available around the venue and the town centre car parks are a short walk away, which is usually straightforward on a Sunday afternoon. Carlow railway station on Railway Road is on the Dublin Heuston to Waterford line, about 15 minutes on foot. The VISUAL cafe and the galleries are open around the screening if you want to make an afternoon of it.
