What to Expect

Minor hurling is the under-17 grade and the point at which Carlow’s hurling clubs find out what their next adult team will look like. Division 1 gathers the strongest hurling clubs in the county, several of them from the Barrow valley and the south-east where the game has always been strongest, and the round runs as four simultaneous 7.30pm throw-ins on a single Monday evening in late August.

The fixtures on Monday 24 August 2026 are Naomh Eoin v Burren Rangers at Myshall, Carlow Town Hurling Club v Mount Leinster Rangers at the Carlow Town grounds, Naomh Moling v Ballinkillen at Pairc Naomh Moling, and Bagenalstown Gaels v Naomh Brid at the Naomh Brid grounds. Minor hurling in Carlow is played at a high tempo and the standard is closer to adult hurling than the age grade suggests, with several players already training with senior club panels. Because all four games start together, spectators pick a ground rather than trying to catch more than one, and each match draws its own parish support.

Getting There

Carlow Town Hurling Club is in the county town, an easy walk or short drive from the centre and from Carlow railway station on the Dublin Heuston to Waterford line. Myshall sits under the Blackstairs in the south-east of the county about 20km from Carlow town, Pairc Naomh Moling is in the Glynn and St Mullins area in the far south along the Barrow, and Naomh Brid is based around Ballinkillen and Bagenalstown in central Carlow. All of the rural venues need a car; parking is on site or on the road alongside each ground.
