What to Expect

The Cental Carlow Minor Football Championship is the under-17 grade and the last stop before adult club football, so it is the competition where county minor panellists play alongside club team-mates who will be in senior dressing rooms within a couple of seasons. Carlow runs it in two divisions, and the whole round goes ahead on a single Monday evening with all seven games throwing in within half an hour of each other.

Division 1 has four games at 7pm on Monday 17 August 2026: St Martins v St Patrick’s at Ballon, Eire Og v Palatine at Pairc Ui Bhriain, Rathvilly v Kildavin/Clonegal at Fr Ryan Park, and Tinryland v Bagenalstown Gaels at Tinryland. Division 2 starts half an hour earlier at 6.30pm with three games: Asca v Michael Davitts at Presentation College, Mount Leinster Rangers v Railyard at the Mount Leinster Rangers grounds, and Fenagh v Clonmore at J.J. Hogan Memorial Park. Several of the minor sides are amalgamations of neighbouring clubs, which is standard in a small county, so the team names on the fixture list will not always match the adult clubs.

Getting There

Pairc Ui Bhriain and Presentation College are both in Carlow town, walkable from the centre and from Carlow railway station on the Dublin Heuston to Waterford line. The other grounds are rural: Ballon is on the N80 south-east of Carlow town, Rathvilly is on the N81 towards Baltinglass, Tinryland is just off the R724, Mount Leinster Rangers play near Borris, and J.J. Hogan Memorial Park is at Fenagh in the centre of the county. All the rural venues need a car, with parking on site.
