What to Expect

Junior B is where the second and third adult teams of Carlow’s bigger clubs meet the smaller rural clubs fielding their only side, and it is one of the most competitive grades in the county precisely because of that mix. Games are played on club pitches on midweek evenings, most of them free or nominally priced at the gate, and crowds are made up largely of the players’ own parishes. If you want the unvarnished version of Carlow club football, this is the grade to watch.

The current round takes in Ballinabranna, Tinryland, Bagenalstown Gaels, Kildavin/Clonegal, Naomh Eoin, Old Leighlin and St Patrick’s. Ballinabranna host Bagenalstown Gaels at Baile na mBrannach on Thursday 20 August at 7pm, with Tinryland taking on Kildavin/Clonegal at their own ground the same evening at 7.30pm. Naomh Eoin meet Old Leighlin in Myshall on Friday 21 August at 7pm. The following Tuesday, 25 August, brings two 7pm games: Ballinabranna v St Patrick’s at Baile na mBrannach and Naomh Eoin v Kildavin/Clonegal in Myshall. Getting There

Ballinabranna is a small village in central Carlow between Leighlinbridge and Milford, roughly 10km south of Carlow town off the R705. Tinryland lies just south-east of Carlow town on the R724, and Myshall sits under the Blackstairs in the south-east of the county. All three grounds are rural and best reached by car; there is informal parking at each, usually in a field or along the approach road on busy nights. There are no evening bus services to these villages.
