At George Bernard Shaw Theatre, VISUAL Carlow · Old Dublin Road, Carlow, Co. Carlow, R93 A3K1
How’s Your Father? is a comedy play written by the father and son team of Conal and Rory Gallen, and it arrives at the George Bernard Shaw Theatre on Saturday 17 October 2026 with Conal Gallen in the lead. The plot turns on Bridie Murphy, who opens a bed and breakfast in the teeth of her husband Willie’s objections. When their neighbour Dick, already confused, lands in the middle of family trouble, Bridie’s answer is to bring a priest into it, which makes everything considerably worse.
The company pitch it as a non stop, laugh a minute riot of craic, confusion and constant laughter, with strands of love, deception and mystery running underneath the farce. Gallen has spent decades touring this style of Irish stage comedy and the writing is built for a live room rather than a screen. Tickets are €30 including the booking fee and the show is rated 16+. It plays the 335 seat auditorium inside the VISUAL building, a single Saturday night date on the tour.
VISUAL is on the Old Dublin Road on the eastern side of Carlow town, beside Carlow College. The M9 puts Dublin about an hour away and the N80 links Carlow to Wexford and the midlands. Street parking is available around the venue and the town centre car parks are a short walk. Carlow railway station on Railway Road is on the Dublin Heuston to Waterford line, about 15 minutes on foot, and Bus Eireann services call from Kilkenny, Waterford and Dublin. Saturday nights are busy in the town centre, so allow extra time to park.
