At George Bernard Shaw Theatre, VISUAL Carlow · Old Dublin Road, Carlow, Co. Carlow, R93 A3K1
Clinical psychologist Dr David Coleman takes the stage of the George Bernard Shaw Theatre on Tuesday 20 October 2026 with Ready for Anything, a live talk on building emotional resilience in children and teenagers. The subtitle is the substance of the evening: how young people cope with a fast moving world of academic pressure, constant comparison and social media, and what the adults around them can actually do about it. Coleman sets out practical ways to support a child’s independence and to make home a place where a young person feels secure enough to take risks and get things wrong.
This is a spoken evening rather than a drama, closer to a lecture with an audience than a play, and it is programmed as part of VISUAL’s live stage season. Coleman mixes clinical insight with humour and closes with a question and answer session, so parents and teachers can put their own situations to him directly. Tickets are €32 including the booking fee and the show carries an 18+ rating, which reflects the adult audience it is aimed at rather than the content. It runs in the 335 seat auditorium inside the VISUAL building on the Old Dublin Road.
VISUAL sits on the Old Dublin Road on the eastern edge of Carlow town, beside Carlow College. The M9 brings you from Dublin in about an hour, and the N80 connects Carlow to Wexford and the midlands. Carlow railway station on Railway Road is on the Dublin Heuston to Waterford line, about 15 minutes on foot, and Bus Eireann runs services into the town from Kilkenny, Waterford and Dublin.
