Environmental documentary screening at VISUAL Carlow

What to Expect

The CCEN Environmental Film Series is a run of environmental documentary screenings at VISUAL Carlow, programmed by CCEN in collaboration with the arts centre. The autumn 2026 season has four dates between 7 October and 4 November, most of them tied to Carlow Climate Action Week, and each screening is built to leave room for discussion afterwards rather than sending people straight out the door. Two of the four are free with booking, and the paid dates are modestly priced.

The season opens on Wednesday 7 October with The Council of All Beings, a two and a half hour workshop led by ecologist Dr Laura Kehoe in which participants take on the perspectives of river species using masks and symbols, followed by a screening of Riverine. That combined ticket is €20 and runs at 3:00 PM and 7:00 PM. Sunday 11 October at 3:00 PM pairs #CLIMATESCAM, a 40 minute UK film on why climate conspiracies persist, with Food For Thought, a 35 minute film in which organic farmer Lisa Guy asks whether giving up animal products is genuinely necessary, followed by a Q&A. Riverine screens on its own on Monday 12 October at 7:00 PM for €7. Directed by Alan Gilsenan with the Shaking Bog festival and funded by LAWPRO, it draws on conversations with residents of the Dargle River Basin from Glencree to Bray and a commissioned meditation on rivers by Kerri ni Dochartaigh. The series closes on Wednesday 4 November at 7:00 PM with Ocean with David Attenborough, a 105 minute 2025 documentary.
