Feast of the Assumption Masses at Carlow Cathedral

At Cathedral of the Assumption · College Street, Carlow, Co. Carlow

Cathedral of the Assumption, Carlow town

What to Expect

The Feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary falls on Saturday 15 August 2026, and it is the patronal feast of Carlow’s own Cathedral of the Assumption. The parish has published its holy day schedule: a vigil Mass on Friday evening 14 August at 6.15pm, then two Masses on the feast day itself, at 8.30am and 10.30am on Saturday 15 August. The Sacrament of Reconciliation is heard on Saturdays following the 10am Mass.

The Assumption is one of the holy days of obligation in the Irish Church calendar and it draws a noticeably larger congregation than an ordinary weekday. In Carlow the feast carries extra weight because the cathedral, with its distinctive lantern tower over College Street, is dedicated to it. The usual weekend timetable resumes immediately afterwards: vigil at 6.15pm on Saturday, then Sunday Masses at 8.30am, 10.30am, 12.30pm and 7pm.
