Carlingford is a Norman town built on a fjord, with the Mournes across the water and the Cooley Mountains behind it, and a tight grid of medieval lanes that has survived largely intact. The Greenway walking and cycling route runs along the shore, and the village is known for oysters landed in the lough that morning. There is more on the town and the wider county at Carlingford and Co. Louth.
