At Browns Road Library · Paddy Brown's Road, Lisduggan, Waterford City, Co. Waterford, X91 EK76
Browns Road Library and Access IT are running a free beginner smartphone course starting on Wednesday 2 September 2026. Classes run on Wednesday mornings from 10am to 12pm and the course is made up of seven lessons, so it carries through to mid-October.
It is pitched at complete beginners, meaning people who have a smartphone but do not feel in control of it. The two-hour format gives enough time to practise on your own handset rather than watch a demonstration, which is usually the difference between a class that sticks and one that does not. Access IT deliver digital skills training in community settings, and running the course through a branch library keeps it local, informal and free of the sales pressure that comes with asking in a phone shop. Browns Road is one of eleven branches in the Waterford City and County Library Service and hosts a fortnightly parent and toddler group alongside its adult programming. Places must be registered in advance because numbers are limited. Booking is by phone on 051 849614 or by email to brownsroadlibrary@waterfordcouncil.ie. Bring your own phone and, if you have it, the email address and password associated with it.
Browns Road Library is in Lisduggan on the southern side of Waterford city, roughly ten minutes by car from the Quay. Local city bus routes serve Paddy Brown’s Road and the surrounding estates, so the branch is reachable without a car from most of the city. Drivers coming from the N25 ring road should follow signs for Lisduggan and the Cork Road side of the city. There is on-street parking near the library. The branch is on one level and step-free, and the morning slot means it sits outside the school-run traffic in both directions.
