Anthony Toner brings his songs, stories and fingerstyle guitar to The Market Place Theatre and Arts Centre in Armagh on Friday, 13 November 2026, at 8pm.
Toner is a songwriter and guitarist known for warm, story-filled shows rather than spectacle. The set draws on a back catalogue of well-loved songs, including “Sailortown”, “The Road to Fivemiletown” and “Cousins at Funerals”, alongside newer material. For 2026 he adds a fresh strand to the evening: a book-length collection of his own lyrics, drawn from a quarter-century of writing that runs from his debut album Eventually, which included “Cousins at Funerals”, up to 2025’s Long Long Way. Expect an intimate, largely acoustic evening with a few chosen cover versions, some readings from the new lyric collection and a handful of poems by writers Toner admires. His playing and stage presence have drawn praise from reviewers at the Glasgow Americana Festival. The show takes place in the venue’s studio theatre, which has an unreserved, tiered-style layout rather than allocated seats.
The Market Place Theatre and Arts Centre is on Market Street in Armagh city centre, BT61 7BW.
Armagh is a small cathedral city built around two hills, each topped by a St Patrick’s Cathedral, one Church of Ireland and one Catholic. The Mall, a Georgian park laid out on the site of a former racecourse, and the Observatory and Planetarium are both a short walk from the theatre. There is more to see in Armagh and across Co.
