The area around Christ Church is worth understanding before you arrive. Christ Church Cathedral and St. Patrick's Cathedral were both built outside the original Viking city walls, and for centuries they competed fiercely for influence and resources. St. Audoen's is a genuinely overlooked gem. It sits between the Catholic and Church of Ireland sections and contains some of the oldest medieval fabric in the city. The bells date from 1423, which puts them among the oldest in Ireland still in their original location.
