Local tips that make the day better
Donegal is the part of Ireland that catches people by surprise. Most visitors to Ireland never get this far northwest, and the landscape is unlike anything you'll see in Kerry or Clare. Slieve League is less famous internationally than the Cliffs of Moher but actually taller - and on a clear day with a small group, you get a completely different experience than the major tourist sites further south.
Ardara Distillery in Donegal is a genuinely small operation. This isn't a slick visitor experience with a gift shop the size of an aircraft hangar - it's a real working distillery with a story worth hearing. Go easy on the tasting if you've got driving on the itinerary, though your guide will handle all of that.
Carrick-a-Rede rope bridge has a height limit on the number of people who can cross at once. The team accounts for this in the planning, but it's worth knowing that you might need to wait a little. The views from the cliff path on either side of the bridge are excellent regardless.
Pack lighter than you think you need to. You'll be moving between boutique hotels and guesthouses every day or two, and hauling a large case in and out of a Mercedes Sprinter gets old quickly. A soft bag that can go in the overhead or under the seat makes the whole trip run more smoothly.
